Badenoch & Strathspey Branch

Highland Foodbank

The Badenoch and Strathspey Foodbank branch of the Highland Foodbank network opened in November 2013.

It serves the communities throughout Badenoch and Strathspey.

The Foodbank drop-in is in the St Andrews church in Aviemore and there are satellite stores in Grantown on Spey, Kingussie and Newtonmore. Emergency food boxes are also held and distributed by agencies throughout the area.

We currently work with 11 partner agencies (statutory and voluntary) such as health visitors, social workers, Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and religious leaders. All of whom are best placed to identify people in crisis, provide them with a foodbank voucher and referral support.

Every day people in the Highlands are struggling to put food on the table. Reasons range from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Highland Foodbank, part of the work of Blythswood Care, provides a minimum of three days emergency food and support to local people in crisis. In 2018 Highland Foodbank fed over 7000 people from across the Highlands, distributing 50 tonnes of food.

"I was stopped by a lady today who thanked me profusely for the help she got from the food-bank; this was at a time that her work hours had been cut and she was struggling to pay her rent / had little money for food" - local foodbank volunteer
